Year Zero | Dad Hat

30.00

April 17th, 1975 Pol Pot and the Khmer Rouge captured Phnom Penh, Cambodia. They declared it Year Zero. The idea behind Year Zero is that all culture and traditions within a society must be completely destroyed or discarded and a new revolutionary culture must replace it, starting from scratch. All history of a nation or people before Year Zero is deemed largely irrelevant, as it will (as an ideal) be purged and replaced from the ground up.

The crest symbolizes that day while the upside down Angkor Wat represents the destruction of Cambodia during the Khmer Rouge era. The Khmer Rouge emptied cities, purged the country of intellectuals, teachers, musicians, artists, and anyone who was a threat to the revolution.

We must never forget.
